MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Jan. 25, 2007) - Sophomore Beth Zimmerman of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team was named this week's Horizon League Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. The honor is the first of Zimmerman's career and the first of the season for the UWM women's team. At the UW-Whitewater Invite last weekend, Zimmerman won both the long and triple jumps and added a second-place finish in the 200m. In the triple jump, she set a school record with her leap of 38-2 1/2. She also leapt into UWM's top-10 long jump list with her first-place mark of 18-1 1.2, tying the 10th-best jump in school history. She ran 26.82 in the 200m. Through two meets this season, Zimmerman has won both the long and triple jumps each time and added two second-place finishes in the 200m, as well. The Panthers are in action again this weekend, traveling to Madison, Wis., for the Madison Elite Invitational Saturday. The meet gets underway at 10 a.m.
