Taylor Repeats As League Field Athlete of the Week
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Jan. 25, 2011) - Samia Taylor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team has been named the Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week for Jan. 24, the league office announced today. Taylor has now earned the honor after each of the first two meets of the 2011 season, while the award is the fifth of her career. She was honored for her performance in Milwaukee's dual meet victory over crosstown rival Marquette. Taylor broke her own school record in winning the triple jump last weekend and had a personal-best long jump as runner-up in a dual meet against Marquette Saturday. Her triple jump of 40-10 1/4 eclipsed her previous school standard of 40-9 1/2 and handily topped the Klotsche Center fieldhouse record of 40-0 3/4. The Madison, Wis., native also competed in the long jump, taking second to teammate Reigna Pierce. Taylor leapt a personal-best 18-10 3/4 for the ninth-best long jump in school history. The Panthers return to action this weekend at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational. The women compete at the meet Friday, while the men's portion of the meet is Saturday.
