Quinn Mongoven celebrates breaking the school high jump record with head coach Pete Corfeld

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Jan. 26, 2010) - Senior Quinn Mongoven and freshman Samia Taylor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams have been named the Horizon League's Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week, the league office announced today.

Both athletes posted school-records last weekend when the Panthers hosted Marquette in a dual meet at the Klotsche Center. Mongoven won the high jump with a school-record and NCAA provisional height of 7-0 1/4. Taylor won the triple jump, equaling the school mark of 39-9 3/4.

This is the second-straight league athlete of the week award for Mongoven to start the 2010 indoor season. He earned the honor last weekend after tying the school high jump record and posting a win in the event at the Badger Quad in Madison, Wis. His height of 6-11 1/2 at the meet equaled Nick Davis' school record. Mongoven, a six-time league champion in the event, already owns the school's outdoor high jump record at 6-11 and is the first Panther to ever clear seven feet in the event. He also competed in the long jump Saturday vs. Marquette, taking third (22-2 1/2).

Taylor has excelled in the triple jump at each of the first two meets of her collegiate career. She had leapt 38-6 at the Badger Quad for fourth in school history. Her jump tied her with senior Beth Zimmerman for the top spot in school history. Taylor also placed fourth in the long jump (16-9 3/4) against the Golden Eagles.

The Panthers return to action next weekend, competing at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational, Friday and Saturday in Madison, Wis.
