Feb. 3, 2011

MILWAUKEE - Durell Busby and Elise Sigg of the track and field team have been named the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee/U.S. Army ROTC Athletes of the Month for January.

Sigg set the school record in the mile this past month, while Busby has already broken the school record in the 60-meter hurdles twice

Sigg has won three of the four races she has run in so far this season, winning the 3000 meters once and the mile twice. She also ran the fastest 800-meter time on the team in her first collegiate 800-meter race, finishing third in her lone non-win of the month.

She ran 4:53.49 to win the mile at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational and break the school mark in the event. She eclipsed the mark of 4:56.61 and lowered her personal-best time in the event by five seconds.

Busby has run three personal records in the 60-meter hurdles and has won the event at all three meets he has competed in.

He ran 8.08 in the event at the season-opening meet in Madison and then lowered the standard to 8.03 at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational in winning the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. He has now run a career-low time three times in five heats this season.

Basketball players Tony Meier and Lindsay Laur won the December award. The honor will be given out to a male and female student-athlete every month by the athletic department.
