Panthers Take Home Three Weekly Honors From Horizon League
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 8, 2011) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams netted three Horizon League Athlete of the Week awards for Feb. 7 when the league office announced its weekly awards today. Elise Sigg was named the Horizon League Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Scott Erickson and Reigna Pierce were named the Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week. The award is Sigg's second this season and the first for Erickson and Pierce, while Milwaukee has now claimed nine total honors after four meets this season. The Panthers were honored after competing at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational last weekend in South Bend, Ind. Sigg ran the second-fastest 3000m time in school history, taking ninth in the event and resetting her personal record in the event by nearly 25 seconds. She ran 9:43.97, just a few seconds off Linda Marquardt's school mark of 9:40.12, and better than her previous PR of 10:08.57. Erickson is the first Milwaukee freshman honored this season. He competed in the shot put at UND and took 12th with a throw of 50-10 3/4. That toss puts him eighth in school history in the event. Pierce was honored for strong showings in both the long and triple jumps. She took 10th in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 39-7 1/4. She was already third in school history in the event, but this topped her previous best jump by 1.25 inches. In the long jump, she was 12th with a distance of 18-9 1/4. Milwaukee returns to action this weekend at the Iowa State Cyclone Classic, Thursday through Saturday, in Ames, Iowa.
