Combined Events Kick Off Iowa State Cyclone Classic
AMES, Iowa (Feb. 11, 2010) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams got their weekend under the way at the Iowa State Cyclone Classic with the start of combined events Thursday. Three women and two men competed on the meet's first day, with seniors Jenni Parish and Kory Olson and sophomore Laura Hamel competing in the pentathlon. On the men's side, sophomore Drew Feuk and freshman Dan Simon completed the first half of the heptathlon and will round out the event Friday. "Everyone did well today and I'm happy with how everything went," Milwaukee associate head coach Jason Francis said. "I'm ecstatic with how the guys are looking after the first day and the women did well, too. It's good to get another (combined event) under their belts before the league championships." Parish was the women's top scorer, taking sixth with 3,527 points. Olson scored 3,308 points for ninth and Hamel took 11th with a score of 2,879, including a personal-best 9.87 in the 60m hurdles. Simon has 2,623 through four events and sits eighth. Feuk is ninth with 2,595 points. Sophomore Shelby Schaal also competed in the pentathlon, but did not complete all the events because she was under the weather. The Iowa State Cyclone Classic continues Friday and runs through Saturday.
