MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 18, 2010) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams will host the UWM Panther Tune-Up Friday at the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers will welcome league foes UIC and Loyola, as well as Chicago State, to Klotsche in the final preparations for the 2010 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships, Feb. 27-28, in Ann Arbor, Mich. The meet gets underway at 4 p.m. with the start of field events. Running events will follow at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The UWM Panther Tune-Up features double dual meet scoring, with each team being scored against the others. Milwaukee's men and women have combined on a 36-1 record since they began hosting the meet in 2004, with the lone loss coming against the Wisconsin in 2006. Loyola and UIC are each making their sixth trip to Klotsche, while CSU is competing at the meet for the fourth time.

UWM is coming off a strong performance at the Iowa State Cyclone Classic last weekend in Ames, Iowa. The meet was non-scoring, but the Panthers posted a number of dominating performances. Freshman Samia Taylor highlighted the weekend, breaking the school triple jump record by almost a foot and taking second. Her leap of 40-9 1/2 easily trumped the previous school mark of 39-9 3/4, which she had held with senior Beth Zimmerman.

Freshman Elise Sigg won the unseeded 5000m at the meet with the sixth-best time in school history (17:33.54). On the men's side, freshman Dan Simon posted the second-best heptathlon score in school history (4,926 points) to take seventh.

The Panthers are gearing up for next weekend's league championships. The men have won the last six indoor titles and have claimed 11 of the last 13. The women will be shooting to defend their 2009 title and pick up their seventh crown overall. They have finished in the top two at 12 of the last 13 league indoor meets.

NOTES:
• Taylor is one of two Panthers to break school records so far in 2010. Senior Quinn Mongoven tied the school high jump mark on the men's side in the season opener (6-11 1/2). A week later, he reset the standard to 7-0 1/4.

• Taylor was named the Horizon League Women's Field Athlete of the Week this week for the second-straight time and third time this season. Mongoven has earned the men's field athlete of the week award twice.

• With a week to go before the league championships, UWM leads the league in five categories on both the men's and women's sides.
- Mongoven in the high jump and Simon in the heptathlon are league-best scores. Taylor's school-record triple jump is also tops in the league.
- Sophomore Jake Whitewater leads the men's long jump (22-5) and senior Jenni Parish is No. 1 on the women's side (18-3 1/4). Parish also leads in the women's pentathlon (3,527 points).
- Simon and sophomore Ben Crogan are tied atop the men's pole vault chart (15-7).
- Sophomore Shelby Schaal has the league's best high jump on the women's side (5-4 1/4) and senior Jamie Woods has the women's best shot put (44-0).
- Sophomore Drew Feuk leads the men's 60m hurdles, as well (8.42).

• Including Taylor and Mongoven's school records, Milwaukee has a combined 28 top-10 scores in school history this season over 20 events.
