Milwaukee Sends Three To NCAA Qualifier
March 2, 2012
MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee track & field teams will send three athletes to South Bend, Ind. this weekend to the Alex Wilson Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame. The Panthers will be at the meet, looking to improve their national standing and shoot for a place in the NCAA Championships, March 9-10, in Nampa, Idaho. Making the trip to South Bend will be juniors Durell Busby and Samia Taylor, and sophomore Nick Hughes. Busby is coming off his third-straight 60m hurdle championship after breaking the Horizon League record at the league meet last weekend. The junior posted a time of 7.82 in the finals to cruise to a first-place finish and just missed breaking his school-record time of 7.79 he set earlier this year. That time stands 20th-best in the nation. In fact, Busby has broken a school, league or facility record every meet he has competed in this season. Taylor has also had a phenomenal year, resetting Milwaukee's record book in triple jump. The Madison, Wis. native also won a league title last weekend, taking home the triple jump crown with a facility-record leap of 39-7 3/4 (12.08m). Taylor also broke the school record in the event earlier this year with a mark of 41-7 1/4 (12.68m), which is 31st nationally. She also won the long jump league championship and was named Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet. Continuing the trend, Hughes also brought home a league title last weekend after a strong showing in high jump. He won the event after clearing 6-7 (2.01m) to break the facility record. Hughes has a season-high leap of 6-8 1/4 (2.04m), which is tied for 168th in the country, and just shy of his all-time best mark of 6-8 3/4 (2.05m).
The meet is set to begin Friday with all three of Milwaukee's events set for Saturday. |
