MILWAUKEE, Wis. (March 28, 2006) - Senior Tenia Fisher of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has been named the Horizon League Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, the league office announced today.

Fisher has now earned the honor in three of the four years it has been presented. She is just the second athlete in league history, in any sport, to earn an Athlete of the Year honor in the same sport three times.

Fisher set both a school and League record at the 2006 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships, crossing the line in 55.69 seconds to win the 400m. She also claimed wins in the 800m and the 4x400m relay at this year's meet. She has now won the indoor 800m in each of the last three years. During the course of the season, Fisher set school records in both the 600m and 800m races, running 1:33.56 in the 600m at the Edmunds Cup on Jan. 28 and crushing her previous school record of 2:10.05 in the 800m with a time of 2:07.20 at the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational earlier this month.

Fisher, who was also named Outstanding Performer for Running Events at the league indoor meet last month, has now accumulated six track and field awards. Her other accolades include 2004 Indoor Outstanding Performer for Running Events and the 2003 Horizon League Outdoor Track Newcomer of the Year honor.
