MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 8, 2008) - Junior Holly Nearman of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team has been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week for April 7, the league office announced today.

Nearman was honored for her performance last weekend at the Stanford Invitational. She won her section of the 5000m at the meet, crossing the line in 17:06.61. Her time shaved almost 25 seconds off her personal-best time and elevated her to fourth in school history in the event.

The honor is the second in as many weeks for Nearman. Last week, she was named the league's athlete of the week.

Nearman and the Panthers are back in action this weekend, heading to the Sea Ray Relays. The meet kicks off with the multi-events Thursday in Knoxville, Tenn.
