Three Panthers Named Academic All-League
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 17, 2007) - Three members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee league champion women's track and field have been named to the Academic All-Horizon League Team the league office announced today. Senior Kourtney Nault and sophomores Jenni Saarinen and Holly Nearman were all named to the 18-member team that was honored for the 2007 indoor season. It is the first academic all-league award for each. During the indoor season, Nault scored in three events at the Horizon League Indoor Championshps, helping the Panthers to a second-straight title. She placed third in the 5000m, took fifth in the mile run and added an eighth-place showing in the 3000m. Nault boasts a 3.412 grade point average as an ASL/special education major. Saarinen successfully defended her league pentathlon indoors this season, setting a school and league record and met the NCAA Provisional score in the process. She also competed in three other events at the league championships, taking third in the long jump and fourth in the high jump. A native of Finland, she also earned league scholar-athlete of the week honors Feb. 14. Saarinen is majoring in elementary education and has a 3.808 GPA. Nearman was an all-league second team member as runner-up in the 5000m at the league indoor meet. She also scored with a fourth-place showing in the 3000m. Seh also recorded a win earlier in the season, taking top honors in the 5000m at the Madison Elite Invitational, just ahead of Nault in second. A journalism major, Nearman is a junior academically and has maintained a 3.619 GPA.
