Panthers Land League-Best 13 On Winter All-Academic Teams
April 24, 2012 MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has placed a league-best 13 student-athletes on the Horizon League's Winter All-Academic Teams, the league office announced today. The group of 13 includes seven student-athletes from swimming and diving, four from indoor track and field as well as one apiece from men's and women's basketball. UWM's honorees include Tony Meier from men's basketball and Sami Tucker from women's basketball. The seven swimming and diving honorees include Sky Boggio, Evan Green, Brady Huemann, Mike Schalla, Kyle Trelka, Erika Pliner and Sarah Wardecke. Courtney Fisher, Laura Hamel, Erika Hanson and Shelby Schall of the women's indoor track and field team were also honored. The league honorees are part of a group of 153 student-athletes who earned a grade-point average of 3.0 or better this past fall. The group accounts for more than 52 percent of UWM's total student-athlete population. This fall was also the 22nd-straight semester where UWM's departmental GPA was above a 3.0, with the department's cumulative GPA sitting at 3.09. The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits. |
