Panthers Off To Pair Of Weekend Meets
April 26, 2012
MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track & field teams head to a pair of meets in their final regular season meet of the season starting Friday. Part of the team will head to Des Moines, Iowa for the 103rd running of the storied Drake Relays Friday and Saturday while the rest of the team will stay right here in Milwaukee for the Marquette Invitational at the Melvin "Bus" Shimek Track & Field Facility at Valley Fields.
Friday's events at Drake are scheduled to start just before 9 a.m., concluding Saturday starting at 8 in the morning. The Marquette Invite will get underway Saturday at 10 a.m., starting with field events. The 3000m will kick off the running events at 2 p.m.
Scouting The Meets
Closer to home, this is actually the third time Milwaukee will compete against Marquette this season. The Panthers combined to beat the Golden Eagles during the indoor season in a home dual meet back in January. Then, just three weeks ago, the two teams battled high winds and cold temperatures in a close win by MU at Valley Fields.
Last Time Out
Junior Durell Busby boasts the team's highest national ranking, coming in at 24th in the 110m hurdles after breaking his own school record at the Kansas Relays last weekend with a time of 13.90 seconds.
Other Panthers currently receiving national attention are Shelby Schaal in heptathlon (40th/5,063 points), freshman Aaron Dillon (60th/15.20m) and junior Samia Taylor (61st/12.49m), both in triple jump, sophomore Nick Hughes in high jump (64th/2.10m) and sophomore Dexter Schleis in the 400m hurdles (65th/52.24m).
