Iris Perez has been named the Horizon League Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the week of May 3.

Perez has been ensuring herself of a strong sophomore campaign with her efforts for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team. The Panther sophomore garnered the league's weekly award based on her performance at the WIU Tune Up (5/1), posting a win in the 200-meter dash and helping lead the women's 400-meter relay to another victory. Her time of 24.89 in the 200-meter dash is a personal-best and also places her third on UWM's all-time top-10 individual outdoor performances.

The Milwaukee sprinter is currently the team's fastest 200-meter dash runner, ranking fourth in the Horizon League. Perez is currently the Panthers' second-fastest 100-meter dash runner with a time of 12.47, good for sixth in the league.

With last week's win in the 200-meter dash, Perez and the rest of the Panthers set their sights to the 2004 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This year's championships will be held at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis and will be hosted by Butler University. The meet will be held over the course of two days, starting on Thursday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. and wrapping up on Friday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. The UWM women are the reigning Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Champions.
