Nearman Named Academic All-District For Second Time
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (June 5, 2009) - Senior Holly Nearman of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team has been selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team for the second-straight season, CoSIDA announced Thursday. Nearman was an academic all-district selection last season and has been named to the academic all-league team seven times over cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field. Nearman had a standout senior track and field campaign, capping it with Horizon League championships in the 5000m and 10,000m during the outdoor season. She also broke the school 5000m twice outside, eventually lowering the standard to 16:36.62. The Monroe, Wis., native was named the league track athlete of the week four times over the five weeks of the regular season. Indoors, she helped the Panthers to a league championship by running with the school-record and first-place distance medley relay, while posting third-place finishes in the 1500m and 3000m. In the classroom, Nearman has maintained a 3.70 grade point average as a journalism and mass communication major.
