Panthers Land Four On Academic All-League Team
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (June 29, 2011) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team placed four student-athletes on the Horizon League's Academic All-League Team, the league office announced Wednesday. Seniors Erin Havener and Angie Kaufmann, junior Shelby Schaal and sophomore Elise Sigg were named to the team for excelling in athletics and the classroom. The Panthers claimed the league's outdoor crown in May. Havener earned the award for the fourth time in her career, including after the 2011 indoor season. During the outdoor campaign, she claimed her seventh league pole vault championships. She also broke the school record in the event, clearing 13-1 1/2 and qualifying for the NCAA Preliminary Championships. Kaufmann had an outstanding league meet, anchoring the 4x400m relay to a championship that secured the team title. UWM had trailed entering that final event. She also earned all-league second-team honors in both the 200m and 400m as runner-up. Her times put her third in school history in the 200m and fourth in the 400m. Schaal scored in four different events at the league meet, including claiming a league title in the heptathlon. She also placed third in the javelin, fifth in the high jump and sixth in the 100m hurdles. Meanwhile, Sigg was runner-up in the 10,000m and took fourth in the 5000m. Havener graduated in December Magna Cum Laude with her undergraduate degree in nursing, while Kaufmann is a kinesiology major with a 3.442 cumulative grade point average. Schaal has sophomore athletic eligibility and has maintained a 3.582 GPA as a health sciences major. Sigg is also a kinesiology major and boasts a 3.673 GPA.
