Panther Duo Repeats As Academic All-League Selections

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Junior Katie Slamka and senior Anna Christian of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team were named to the Academic All-Horizon League Team for outdoor track and field, when the teams were announced by the league office today.

Both athletes earned the honor for indoor track earlier this season, in addition to indoors and outdoors in 2004, as well. Christian also has earned the honor in cross country.

Slamka capped her junior campaign with Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet honors at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships. She finished with scoring 36 points at the meet after winning two league titles and scoring in three more events. In addition to winning the league's inaugural heptathlon competition (4,565 points), the Racine native repeated as champion in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.77. She also placed second in the javelin, third in the 100m hurdles and fifth in the long jump.

A kinesiology major, Slamka has found success in the classroom, maintaining a 3.735 GPA.

Christian competed in both the 5000m and 10,000m events at the Horizon League Championships, taking second in the 10,000m in 37:34.52. She posted a fifth-place finish in the 5000m event, crossing the line in 17:41.91. Christian was also repeated as a first-team all-league selection in cross country this season, taking fifth place at the league meet.

The Horicon native is an architecture major and boasts a 3.698 GPA.

Milwaukee posted second-place finishes at both the indoor and outdoor league meets this season, marking the second-straight season it has done so.
