MILWAUKEE - Cornelius Hill set a new UWM school record in the men's 1500m Friday night in the first day of action at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. Hill nearly missed a qualifying mark in the 1500m with his school-record time of 3:46.29, finishing eighth overall and breaking the final outdoor record held by former Panther great Cory Peterson. The old mark was 3:47.47, set in 1998. Hill needed to have run the distance in 3:45.00 to earn a provisional qualifying mark.

Jon Manke finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 55'10 1/2", missing out on a qualifying mark by less than three-quarters of a meter.

For the women, Abby Hurst finished fifth in the 3000m Steeplechase with a season-best time of 10:57.33. Stephanie Kenesie competed in the long jump, but failed to mark a distance.

All four Panthers will compete Saturday in the final day of competition. Hill and Hurst will run in the 800m, while Manke will throw the discus on Saturday. Kenesie will be joined on the men's side in the triple jump by Ken Hunt.
