June 4, 2002
MILWAUKEE - Iris Perez of Verona, Wis., has signed a letter of intent to enroll at UWM this fall and compete for the track and field team, head coach Pete Corfeld announced today. Perez becomes the 12th to sign with the Panthers in the last week.
Perez placed in two events at last weekend's state championship meet, finishing fourth in the 100m with a time of 12.78 in the finals and seventh in the 200m with a finals time of 26.26 in Division 1. She also finished seventh in the 100m and fifth in the 200m a year ago.
Perez becomes the 17th signee for the Panthers this offseason. She joins Wisconsin natives Jason Miller and Adam Swanson of Neenah, Joshua Nygren of Marinette, Amber Perri of Stevens Point, Katie Anderson and Michelle Blomquist of Eau Claire, Tenia Fischer of Milwaukee, Katie Slamka and Stephanie Ray of Racine, Andrea Ziebell of Sussex, Gabe Wagoner of Peshtigo, Elliot Enright of Madison, Nate Weiland of Middleton and Nick Wichert of Milwaukee, and Sean Cludy of Stillwater, Minn., and Griffin McNulty of Johnsburg, Ill., on next year's team.
The UWM men's and women's track and field teams each won the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Filed Championship earlier this month. The men took their fifth-straight title, while the women set a league record for margin of victory in winning their second-straight and third overall title. In addition, head coach Pete Corfeld was named Horizon League Coach of the Year for both the men's and women's teams.
