Sunby Added To Track Team
Dec. 9, 2002 MILWAUKEE - Amy Sunby of Janesville, Wis., has signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and compete in track and field, head coach Pete Corfeld announced today. Sunby, a sprint and middle-distance runner from Janesville Craig High School, finished second in the 400m in 57.71 at the Wisconsin Division I state championships last spring as a junior after qualifying for the final with the third-best time. She finished just ahead of Tenia Fisher and Amber Perri, two current freshmen on the Panther Track and Field Team. "We're building a really strong core of 400m runners," head coach Pete Corfeld said. "Amy's going to help make that one of our strongest points of our team in a few years." Sunby becomes the third student-athlete to sign with UWM during the early signing period. She joins Kristine Gasser of Mukwonago, Wis., and Eric Wheeler of Monroe, Wis., as the first signees for the 2003-04 season.
The Panthers open their season Jan. 18 at the Carthage Invitaitonal in Kenosha, Wis. UWM will host the 2003 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Klotsche Center on March 1 and 2, 2003.
