MILWAUKEE -
The impending arrival in the New Orleans area of Hurricane Ivan has caused the cancellation of this weekend's Nokia Sugar Bowl Classic volleyball tournament, which included the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Southern Methodist and Miami (Fla.) were the other two teams scheduled to play in the tournament. All three schools have been in consultation about rescheduling the matches at a new location this weekend, possibly with an additional team affected by the hurricane. A final decision is expected Wednesday morning.
The Panthers are currently 4-2 after winning two of three matches this past weekend at the Powerade Panther Invitational. After this weekend, UWM faces two in-state rivals, playing at Marquette Tuesday and at UW-Green Bay Friday.
