Peters Named U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week
Sept. 26, 2008
MILWAUKEE - Becky Peters of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's volleyball team has been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today. Peters averaged 5.25 kills per set and became UWM's all-time digs leader during UWM's three matches a week ago. She also earned league offensive player of the week accolades Monday. Plus, last week saw Peters become UWM's all-time leader in digs. She now has 1,634 digs in her career, besting the 1,600 Laura Dallenbach collected from 1998-2001. During the match with NIU Sept. 16, Peters wound up totaling 19 kills and 11 digs. Then last Friday, Peters tallied 20 kills and 16 digs in leading the Panthers to the victory at Wright State. Finally Sunday, Peters tallied a collegiate-best 24 kills against Oregon State, a team that has won 11 of its first 13 matches and beat #13 Wisconsin Saturday night. That match also marked the 100th appearance for Peters in a Panther uniform, with the senior having never missed a match. In all, Peters has reached double figures in kills in every match this season while collecting 10 double-doubles. Peters is the second UWM volleyball player to claim scholar-athlete honors this season, with Lauren Felsing winning the award following the first week of the season. Peters is a nursing major with a 3.435 grade-point average. Peters and the Panthers will return to action tonight, welcoming Butler to the Klotsche Center for a 7 p.m. contest.
