Panthers Take 21st At NCAA Great Lakes Regional11/15/2008 - Senior Erin Magargee took 73rd place in her final collegiate meet to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a 21st-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Saturday morning, hosted by Purdue University. The Panthers scored 574 points as the top competing Horizon League school. Michigan took top honors at the meet with 72 points. Every other league school, but Loyola, was at the Great Leakes Regional, with Butler as the next league school in 26th place. Magargee ran a time of 22:52 for 73rd place, while junior Abbie Zaspel was the next Milwaukee runner in 88th place. Zaspel crossed the line in 23:04. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's cross country teams head to Lafayette, Ind., Saturday for the 2008 NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The Panthers are coming off a pair of strong performances at the Horizon League Championships Nov. 2, where the women took second by just eight points and the men finished third. Three Panthers landed on the all-league first team and another made the second team in leading the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a second-place finish at the 2008 Horizon League Championship Saturday. Milwaukee finished with 43 points, just eight back of league-champion Loyola. This marked the second-straight runner-up finish for the Panthers, who finished behind Butler last season, but just ahead of the Ramblers. Junior Abbie Zaspel led three-straight UWM finishers with a fifth-place finish and a time of 18:39. Senior twins Erin and Danielle Magargee were sixth and seventh, with Erin finishing in 18:46 and Danielle in 18:51. Both Zaspel and Erin Magargee were second-team performers last season, while the award was Danielle's first and continued a breakout senior campaign. Read Full Release |
