Spring 2012 Student-Athlete Events

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is composed of current Panther student-athletes assembled in order to provide insight into the student-athlete experience by promoting, fostering, designing and implementing programs that encourage academic achievement, professional development, health-conscious life choices and social responsibility.

The UWM SAAC is committed to the following initiatives:

  1. Providing student-athletes with the opportunity to effectively communicate with the Athletic Department Administration and offer suggestions to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience at UW-Milwaukee.
  2. Promoting effective communication among coaches, the Athletic Department administration and student-athletes.
  3. Promoting an awareness of UW-Milwaukee Athletics throughout the campus and the Greater Milwaukee area.
  4. Reviewing NCAA legislative proposals and make recommendations to the Athletic Department Administration.

The UMW Panther SAAC is dedicated to the successful design and implementation of a comprehensive CHAMPS Life Skills Program that offers educational services and assists in the professional and personal development of all student-athletes. The UWM Panther SAAC promotes a philosophy of individual responsibility that encourages each student-athlete to value their own educational experience. The UWM SAAC fosters opportunities for academic, athletic and personal development, which in turn promotes growth through responsible decision-making and future planning directed toward the fulfillment of life and career goals. The UWM SAAC operates in conjunction with the Horizon League SAAC and the NCAA SAAC. Lonnie Boga, Men's Basketball, and Mary Beth O'Brien, Women's Volleyball, currently represent UWM on the Horizon League SAAC.

SAAC members serve as liaisons between student-athletes, the athletic administration and the campus community. Athletes are encouraged to communicate concerns and ideas to their captains and/or for discussion at scheduled committee meetings

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee routinely invites coaches and members of the administration to meetings and functions. The Committee also includes coaches and administrators in projects and undertakings as needed.
